The long running Law & Order franchise brings together the best of British acting talent for Law & Order: UK. Bradley Walsh (Coronation Street) stars as DS Ronnie Brooks, a real East End, copper’s copper, friend and partner to the charming DS Matt Devlin, Jamie Bamber (Battlestar Galactica) whose approach to policing is part seduction part force. Both report to DI Natalie Chandler (Broken Lines) a working mum who would back them to the end. While the CPS team comprises Ben Daniels (The Passion) as dedicated Senior Crown Prosecutor James Steel, a man on a mission for justice; Freema Agyeman (Dr Who, Torchwood) as hard working, strong-willed young prosecutor Alesha Phillips; and Bill Paterson (Criminal Justice) as their respected boss CPS director George Castle, a man trying to balance his ideals with the bigger picture.

    BROKEN

    The terrifying CCTV image of a toddler being led to his death haunts our heroes in this episode, which deals with the moral complexities of policing and putting on trial children who kill. This startling story tests the bounds of compassion and questions whether some crimes really are unforgivable.

    HOUNDED

    Senior Crown Prosecutor, James Steel, doggedly pursues a recently released convicted serial rapist whom he believes to be guilty of further offences since his release. Is James persecuting an innocent man who has served his time in prison and paid his debt to society, or right in thinking some people are beyond rehabilitation?

    DEFENCE

    When three people are brutally murdered in a shop in central London and a fourth left for dead, Matt and Ronnie are up against the clock to find the killer who they fear could strike again. Prosecuting the offender proves surprisingly challenging for Crown Prosecutor James Steel when he finds himself pitted against a defence lawyer he hadn’t bargained for.

    CONFESSION

    Trying to find the killer of police sergeant Pete Garvey proves all the more harrowing for DS Matt Devlin who knew Pete not only as a colleague, but as a childhood friend. Unable to bring a straightforward murder charge against the accused, James and Alesha take a maverick approach in order to finally convict an offender whose crimes have spanned decades.

    SURVIVOR

    When investigating the murder of prison officer, Charlie Tyner, Matt and Ronnie discover he wasn’t quite the respected member of Her Majesty’s Prison Service that his colleagues would paint him as. Penetrating the masonic-like web of the prison service proves near impossible for our heroes who discover Tyner is not the only victim in this case.

    MASQUERADE

    The mystery surrounding the stabbing of student, Archie Rahman, has our cops chasing their tails where the only clue they have to go on is a library book checked out on the day of his murder. When the perpetrator claims to have acted in self-defence, Alesha is forced to face past demons and James is tasked with defending a dead victim.

    ANONYMOUS

    Anonymous tells the story of a cyberstalker whose victim is desperate to have the police take her case seriously. But when a stalking case becomes a murder investigation, our heroes are pitched against each other. How far will they go to bring the right man to justice?

  8. Episode 8

    HELP

    The murder of has-been footballer, Robbie Nichols, on the street one evening at first looks like a random robbery gone wrong but when the prime suspect becomes the star witness, it becomes clear that our heroes have only scratched the surface of a greater crime ring.

    DENIAL

    Love, betrayal and assisted suicide are the themes of this episode where a high court judge is shot in what looks like a car robbery gone wrong. Critically injured but not killed, Judge Callaghan soon learns that a hit man was hired to kill her but can she cope with the truth of who wants her dead?

    ID

    The brutal and cold-blooded murder of a pregnant doctor in the carpark of the hospital where she works leads our heroes to places they never could have imagined. What initially seems like a crime of passion soon unravels into a conspiracy involving senior government officials. Risking their careers, James and Alesha must get to the bottom of this case before another life is destroyed.

  11. Episode 11

    DUTY OF CARE

    The death of a teenage boy with severe disabilities and learning difficulties who was taunted and bullied by youths in his area for years feels like an open and shut case for the prosecution. Complications develop when James and Alesha find themselves up against a ‘win-at-all-costs’ defence lawyer whose outrageous ego threatens the fair outcome of the trial.

  12. Episode 12

    SHAKEN

    The unfolding tragedy of this story takes us on unexpected twists and turns as what initially looks like the cot death of 6 month-old Alex Raines is later diagnosed as shaken baby syndrome. With several suspects and little more than a process of elimination to go on, James and Alesha must navigate their way through the family wreckage Alex’s death has left behind.

  13. Episode 13

    SKELETONS

    The team pursues a serial killer across London and Crown Prosecutor, James Steel, finds himself on the wrong side of the law. Defending himself against an allegation of perverting the course of justice, Steel battles for his career and his freedom.

    Bradley Walsh plays Detective Superintendent Ronnie Brooks, a police veteran whose seen it all and done it all. Home life isn’t Brooks’ strongpoint, as a recovering alcoholic Brooks has two ex-wives and two daughters and regards his partner Matt Devlin as a surrogate son.

    Jamie Bamber

    Jamie Bamber plays Brooks’ partner Matt Devlin. While he looks up to his veteran partner he is more of a tyrant detective who understands the law as black and white.

    Harriet Walter plays Natalie Chandler, Brooks’ and Devlin's boss.

    She is a firm boss with a no-nonsense attitude, who brings stability into the office environment. She is relied upon as a trusted colleague.

    Ben Daniels plays James Steel, senior crown prosecutor. Steel’s devotion to his work is unprecedented and pursuing the truth in every case leaves little personal time. The Crown Prosecution Service wasn’t always his calling though, the birth of his son and a tough rapist case caused him to change his role from defense counsel.

    Freema Agyeman (Doctor Who) plays crown prosecutor Alesha Phillips, partner to James Steel. Phillips has had to overcome continuous obstacles to get to where she is today. It hasn’t been easy but Phillips is intelligent and confident and can’t help but take the side of the underdog

    Bill Paterson

    Bill Paterson plays London Crown Proseuctor Service Director George Castle.

    As boss to James Steel and Alesha Phillips, Paterson is unrelentless when it comes to the justice system. He can be a tough boss but has the utmost respect for his younger colleagues.
